How I Got 20 Interviews In A Month

Updated: Aug 26th, 2025

I’ve been a software engineer for the past 10 years.

Like a lot of people in tech, I have seen the tech industry change drastically with the release of new technologies.

Keeping up with new technology is just a part of the game as a software engineer but what I never expected was how hard it would become to get in the door at a new company.

About 5 years ago, I was in a particularly bad spot and decided I was going to “over-engineer” my job hunting strategy. I decided I would scour every corner of the internet and try every single strategy possible to land as many interviews in a month as possible.

During the research phase of my attempt to “over-engineer” my job hunt, I learned that most resumes don’t land on a human desk anymore. They’re fed into Applicant Tracking Systems, where algorithms decide whether you’re worth a recruiter’s time or not.

The more I learned about how these algorithms function, the more I began to see why my endless grind was not working for me. Although I was sending out 100-200 applications per week, I wasn’t getting any calls back, no interview requests and definitely not getting anywhere closer to an offer.

Eventually I found out there’s a really good way to reverse engineer this algorithm to make the perfect resume….

(If you want to learn more about how to use this strategy in depth click here and i’ll email you a full guide.)

Once I figured out how these systems worked, I started experimenting. At first, I was doing everything manually — copying job descriptions, highlighting keywords, counting how often they appeared, rewriting my resume again and again.

It worked, but it was brutal. Every single application felt like a mini project and I was using a massive Google Sheet with tons of keywords and prepared bullets in them.

The results were promising I finally started getting callbacks but I knew this wasn’t sustainable…

The early wins were super motivating for me and the monotonous copy and paste system convinced me I could put my engineering skills to work and make things more automated.

Instead of endlessly retyping bullet points and ctrl +f through the spreadsheets, I decided to build a tool that would do the heavy lifting for me. Not just firing off resumes, but actually analyzing the job description, showing me what I was missing, and helping me generate better resumes each time.

I sent it to a few friends who were also job hunting, and the feedback was honest:

“This is helpful, but it feels like I’m still getting lazy doing this for every job”

They were right.
I had built something that solved part of the problem, but not the whole problem.

So I kept iterating. I smoothed out the formatting.

I built logic to prioritize keywords in a way that recruiters would actually read naturally. Each round of improvements made the process more and more automated until it was working flawlessly at producing high quality resumes.

And the amount of call backs I was getting was proof it worked. (i'll go over the numbers later)

But there was still one final hurdle.

Even with smarter resumes, most people were applying to the same competitive postings on LinkedIn, Indeed, and Dice.

By the time their application hit the system, they were buried under hundreds of other candidates. Although the success rate was higher, It felt like showing up to a crowded bar with a slightly louder voice.

After months of refining, testing, and retesting, the tool could now scrape directly from company websites. Then it can automatically generate a tailored resume and submit the application directly.

Suddenly, the process shifted from a desperate numbers game to what job hunting used to feel like.

A focused strategy: fewer applications and higher response rates.

I’ve tested this and It works.

I went from endless weeks of silence to consistent callbacks, and so did the first group of people I shared it with the beta testers in our community.

This is what my best month looked like. (over 20 interviews)

And that’s why after years of developing, I’m opening up EasyApply to the public.
